Day-by-Day Itinerary

Each day is carefully crafted to strike a seamless balance between wildlife encounters, breathtaking scenery, refined comfort, and unhurried, meaningful time in every destination.

Day 1

Arrival in Mbale and Transfer to Sipi Falls

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. You will drive eastwards along the Kampala-Jinja Highway, passing through the source of the Nile in Jinja (optional 30-min stop for photos). Continue via Mbale town, where you’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant. The final 1.5-hour ascent takes you up the Mount Elgon slopes to Sipi Falls (1,775m). Check into your eco-lodge overlooking the falls. Enjoy a relaxed evening orientation walk to the viewpoint of the first waterfall. Dinner and overnight at a lodge near Sipi

Day 2

Full Day Sipi Falls Hiking – Conquer All Three Waterfalls

After a hearty breakfast, meet your local guide for a 4 - 5 hour guided hike to explore all three major falls. The trail winds through banana and coffee gardens, rocky paths, and bamboo forests.

  • Chebonet Falls (1st Fall) – 75m high, easily accessible.

  • Ngongoko Falls (2nd Fall) – 85m hidden inside a cave; you can walk behind the water curtain.

  • Sipi Central Falls (3rd Fall) – The tallest at 100m, surrounded by steep cliffs.

You’ll cross wooden bridges, scramble over rocks, and enjoy spectacular photo points. Packed lunch is served near the falls. Return to the lodge by late afternoon. Optional evening community walk to a local Simsim (sesame) shop.

Day 3

Coffee Experience and Abseiling Adventure

After an early breakfast, walk to the edge of the 100m Sipi Central Falls. With professional gear and guides, you will rappel down the cliff face alongside the roaring waterfall – an adrenaline-pumping experience with unmatched views. No prior experience needed. In the afternoon you will have an authentic Arabica Coffee experience. Visit a local Bugisu farmer’s home. You will:

  • Pick ripe red coffee cherries.

  • Hand-pulp the beans using a wooden mortar.

  • Wash, sun-dry, and roast beans in a clay pan.

  • Pound, grind, and brew your own cup of pure Mount Elgon Arabica.

Learn the history of the Bugisu Cooperative Union and how coffee funds local schools. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 4

Mount Elgon Crater Lake Hike and Karamoja Plains Viewpoint

Today, take a less-crowded trail into Mount Elgon National Park. Drive 30 minutes to the Kapkwai Forest Entrance. Hike 2-3 hours to a hidden crater lake formed by volcanic activity. The trail passes through giant lobelias, ancient podocarpus trees, and sightings of black-and-white colobus monkeys. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the Karamoja plains – on a clear day, see as far as Kenya and the Kidepo Valley. Return to the lodge. Late afternoon, optional visit to a Bamasaba (Bagisu) circumcision shrine to learn about the Imbalu cultural ritual.

Day 5

Sunrise Hike to "The Cleft" and Return to Kampala/Entebbe

Wake up early for a short sunrise hike to "The Cleft" – a narrow rock split offering the best panoramic view of Sipi Valley, three falls at once, and the distant Lake Kyoga. Capture your final memories. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Check out and drive back to Kampala with a stop at Mbale market for fresh mountain produce (avocados, passion fruit, vanilla). Lunch en route. Drop off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport if you have an evening departure.
