The Journey

Day 1

Arrival in Mbale and Transfer to Sipi Falls

Your Ugandan safari begins the moment you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where a professional English-speaking driver-guide from Enjobe Safaris will be waiting to welcome you with a personalized sign. After a brief introduction and assistance with your luggage, you’ll be escorted to your private safari vehicle for a smooth and comfortable transfer. You’ll then drive to your selected accommodation in Entebbe or Kampala, passing scenic views and getting your first feel of Uganda’s atmosphere. Upon arrival, you’ll check in, freshen up, and unwind in a calm, welcoming environment. Depending on your arrival time, meals (lunch, dinner, and breakfast) will be provided, giving you time to relax and recover from your journey. The rest of the evening is at leisure perfect for resting and preparing for the adventure ahead.

Day 2

Full Day Sipi Falls Hiking – Conquer All Three Waterfalls

After a hearty breakfast, meet your local guide and set out on a four to five hour guided hike exploring the three main Sipi Falls, following scenic trails that wind through banana and coffee gardens, rocky paths, and sections of bamboo forest while enjoying views of the surrounding countryside. Begin with Chebonet Falls, the first and most easily accessible waterfall standing at about seventy five meters, where you can take in the refreshing atmosphere and capture great photos. Continue on to Ngongoko Falls, the second waterfall at around eighty five meters, uniquely tucked inside a cave where you can walk behind the flowing water curtain for a truly immersive experience. Proceed to Sipi Central Falls, the tallest at approximately one hundred meters, dramatically set against steep cliffs and offering some of the most spectacular viewpoints in the region. Along the way, cross wooden bridges, navigate rocky sections, and stop at scenic points for photos and rest breaks. Enjoy a packed lunch near the falls surrounded by nature before making your way back to the lodge in the late afternoon. In the evening, you may choose to take an optional community walk to a local Simsim shop, where you can learn about sesame processing and local livelihoods.

Day 3

Coffee Experience and Abseiling Adventure

After an early breakfast, walk to the edge of the one hundred meter Sipi Central Falls where you will be equipped with professional safety gear and guided by experienced instructors for a thrilling abseiling experience down the cliff face alongside the roaring waterfall, descending step by step with breathtaking views and no prior experience required as full guidance is provided throughout. After this adrenaline filled activity, return to the lodge to refresh before heading out in the afternoon for an authentic Arabica coffee experience with a local Bugisu farmer, where you will visit their home and take part in the entire traditional coffee making process from picking ripe red coffee cherries, hand pulping the beans using a wooden mortar, washing and sun drying them, roasting the beans in a clay pan, and finally pounding, grinding, and brewing your own fresh cup of pure Mount Elgon Arabica. Along the experience, learn about the history of the Bugisu Cooperative Union and how coffee farming supports local communities and education. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

Day 4

Mount Elgon Crater Lake Hike and Karamoja Plains Viewpoint

After breakfast, take a quieter and less crowded route into Mount Elgon National Park with a short thirty minute drive to the Kapkwai Forest Entrance, where your guided hike begins along scenic forest trails. Spend two to three hours trekking through a unique montane landscape filled with giant lobelias, ancient podocarpus trees, and chances of spotting black and white colobus monkeys moving through the canopy as you make your way to a hidden crater lake formed by past volcanic activity. Upon reaching the lake, enjoy a peaceful picnic lunch while taking in sweeping views over the Karamoja plains, and on a clear day you may even see as far as Kenya and the distant Kidepo Valley. After some time to relax and explore, begin your return hike back through the forest and transfer to your lodge for rest. In the late afternoon, you may choose to visit a traditional Bamasaba circumcision shrine where you can learn about the Imbalu cultural ritual and its deep significance within the local community before returning to your lodge for the evening.

Day 5

Sunrise Hike to "The Cleft" and Return to Kampala/Entebbe

Wake up early and set out on a short sunrise hike to The Cleft, a narrow rock formation that opens up to one of the best panoramic views in Sipi Valley, where you can see all three waterfalls at once along with the vast landscape stretching towards Lake Kyoga, offering a perfect moment to capture your final memories as the sun rises over the hills. Return to the lodge for breakfast, then check out and begin your drive back to Kampala, making a stop at Mbale market where you can explore and pick up fresh mountain produce such as avocados, passion fruit, and vanilla. Continue the journey with a lunch stop along the way before proceeding towards your final destination, where you will be dropped off at your hotel in Kampala or transferred to Entebbe International Airport if you have an evening departure.

What you should know

Best time to visit is during the dry seasons from June to September and December to February when trails are easier to navigate and views are clearer.

Pack essentials including hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, a swimsuit for the falls, insect repellent, a camera, and a reusable water bottle to stay comfortable throughout the trip.

A moderate level of fitness is required as you will be walking for four to five hours on uneven and sometimes rocky trails.

Sipi sits at an elevation of about one thousand seven hundred seventy five meters, which is comfortable for most travelers with no real risk of altitude sickness.
