The Journey

Day 1

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and Transfer to Lodge

Welcome to Uganda - the Pearl of Africa.

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by a professional Enjobe Safaris driver-guide holding a personalized sign with your name.

Your guide will assist with your luggage, introduce you to the safari and transfer you in a private vehicle to your hotel in Entebbe.

After checking in, spend the remainder of the day relaxing and recovering from your international journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to enjoy an optional activity around Entebbe, such as visiting the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, exploring a local craft market or enjoying a sunset experience on Lake Victoria.

Your driver-guide will provide a short briefing about the following day’s journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Day 2

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After an early breakfast, begin your scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda.

Travel through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, passing small towns, wetlands, farms and rural communities. Your first major stop will be at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe.

Here, you will have time to take photographs while standing in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, watch an Equator demonstration and browse locally made crafts and souvenirs.

Continue toward Mbarara, where you will stop for lunch at a carefully selected restaurant.

After lunch, proceed farther into southwestern Uganda. As you approach the Bwindi region, the landscape changes into rolling hills, terraced farms, green valleys and winding mountain roads. This area is part of the scenic Kigezi Highlands, sometimes called the “Switzerland of Africa.”

You will arrive at your lodge near the Rushaga sector of Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening. The exact trekking sector will depend on the location of your confirmed gorilla permit.

After checking in, enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings before dinner. Your driver-guide will brief you on the following day’s gorilla trekking experience, including what to carry, what to wear and what to expect inside the rainforest.

Day 3

Gorilla Trekking Day - The Long Awaited Experience

Today is the highlight of your Uganda gorilla trekking safari.

After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you to the appropriate Bwindi park headquarters. You will register for the trek and attend a compulsory briefing conducted by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.

During the briefing, the rangers will explain the gorilla trekking guidelines, rainforest safety procedures and responsible ways of interacting with the mountain gorillas.

You will then be assigned to a habituated gorilla family and begin your guided trek into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The trek may take several hours, depending on the location of the gorillas, the weather and the condition of the forest trails. The terrain can be steep, muddy and uneven, but the experience of walking through one of Africa’s oldest rainforests is part of the adventure.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend up to one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat.

You may see young gorillas playing, mothers caring for their infants and the dominant silverback watching over the family. Your ranger will guide you on safe viewing, photography and appropriate behaviour throughout the encounter.

After the gorilla experience, begin the trek back to the park headquarters, where you will meet your driver-guide.

Depending on the duration of the trek, you may enjoy your packed lunch inside the forest or after returning to the park headquarters.

You will then return to the lodge for rest and relaxation.

Travelers who finish the trek early and still have enough energy may choose to participate in an optional Batwa or local community cultural experience. This activity can be arranged at an additional cost unless it has been specifically included in your confirmed quotation.

Day 4

Return to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, check out of your lodge and begin the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.

Travel once again through the beautiful landscapes of southwestern Uganda, passing terraced hills, farms, rural communities and small towns.

You will stop for lunch along the way and have additional comfort breaks whenever required.

Upon arrival in Kampala or Entebbe, your driver-guide will transfer you to your hotel or another agreed drop-off location.

A transfer to Entebbe International Airport can also be arranged when your flight schedule allows sufficient time. Because the journey from Bwindi takes approximately 8–10 hours and may be affected by traffic or road conditions, we recommend booking a late-evening flight or spending an additional night in Entebbe before your international departure.

Your 4-day Uganda gorilla trekking safari ends with unforgettable memories of Bwindi’s mountain gorillas, Uganda’s scenic countryside and the warm hospitality of the Pearl of Africa.

What you should know

Gorilla Trekking Permits: Gorilla permits are limited and may sell out quickly, especially during peak seasons. Full payment is required before a trekking slot can be confirmed. Permits remain subject to availability and the Uganda Wildlife Authority tariff applicable at the time of booking. Enjobe Safaris will check availability and secure the permit once payment is received.

Age Requirement: The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Uganda is 15 years. Travelers below this age cannot participate in the standard gorilla trekking experience.

Fitness and Mobility: Gorilla trekking can be physically demanding due to steep, muddy and uneven trails. A moderate level of fitness is recommended, and travelers are encouraged to prepare by walking regularly before the safari. Any mobility concerns should be communicated to Enjobe Safaris during the booking process.

Trekking Rules: Travelers must follow all instructions provided by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, maintain a distance of approximately 10 metres from the gorillas or as directed, keep voices low, avoid touching or feeding the gorillas, and refrain from eating, drinking or using flash photography in their presence.

Health Requirements: Travelers experiencing flu, coughing, fever or any potentially infectious illness should inform their guide before the trek, as human illnesses can be transmitted to mountain gorillas.

Porter Services: Hiring a porter is strongly recommended. Porters can carry daypacks, camera equipment and drinking water while also providing support on steep, muddy or slippery trails. Hiring a porter also supports employment and livelihoods in communities surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Recommended Packing List: Waterproof hiking boots with good grip, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, a lightweight waterproof jacket, gardening or trekking gloves, a small waterproof daypack, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, a reusable water bottle, a camera with spare batteries, waterproof protection for electronic equipment, personal medication and a walking stick, which may be provided or hired locally.
