14-Day Western Uganda Safari

Welcome to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by a professional Enjobe Safaris driver-guide holding a personalised welcome sign.

After completing immigration procedures and collecting your luggage, you will receive assistance before transferring to your selected lodge in Entebbe.

The drive from the airport will be short, allowing you to settle in comfortably after your international journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may spend the remainder of the day relaxing at the lodge, walking around the surrounding area or preparing for the adventure ahead.

Your driver-guide will provide a short briefing about the safari, including the planned departure time for the following morning. Dinner and overnight will be at your selected lodge in Entebbe.

After breakfast, you will travel to Mabamba Bay Wetland for a guided shoebill-searching experience. Mabamba is a vast papyrus wetland located near Lake Victoria and is one of Uganda’s best-known places to search for the rare shoebill.

Upon arrival, you will meet an experienced local birding guide and board a traditional canoe. You will slowly navigate through narrow channels surrounded by papyrus, water lilies and floating vegetation while searching for the shoebill and other wetland birds. Possible bird sightings include African jacanas, pied kingfishers, malachite kingfishers, purple herons, African fish eagles, egrets and cormorants. Although shoebill sightings cannot be guaranteed, the peaceful canoe excursion and rich wetland birdlife make Mabamba an unforgettable experience. After the excursion, you will return to your lodge in Entebbe for lunch and a short rest.

In the afternoon, you will visit Entebbe Botanical Gardens. The gardens contain tropical trees, medicinal plants, open lawns and sections of natural forest near the shores of Lake Victoria. During the guided walk, you may encounter black-and-white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys and several forest and waterbird species. After the visit, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will leave Entebbe and begin the journey towards Murchison Falls National Park.

The drive takes you north through Kampala and several roadside towns before arriving at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary which is home to Uganda’s population of southern white rhinos and offers visitors the opportunity to track them on foot in the company of trained sanctuary rangers.

After receiving a safety briefing, you will walk through the sanctuary while your ranger searches for the rhinos and explains their behaviour, conservation history and importance to Uganda’s wildlife restoration efforts. The experience brings you remarkably close to these impressive animals while following strict safety and conservation guidelines. After rhino tracking, you will have lunch along the route and continue towards Murchison Falls National Park. Upon arrival, you will enter the park and transfer to your lodge.

Where arrival time and park conditions permit, you will enjoy a short evening game drive in search of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, warthogs and other wildlife. If you arrive late, you will proceed directly to the lodge and prepare for the following day’s full safari experience.

After an early breakfast, you will begin a morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park which is Uganda's largest protected wildlife area and contains open savannah, woodland, wetlands and sections of the River Nile.

During the game drive, your driver-guide will explore wildlife-rich areas in search of lions, elephants, Cape buffaloes, giraffes, Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeests, oribis, warthogs, spotted hyenas and leopards. The cooler morning hours provide some of the best opportunities to observe wildlife before the temperatures rise. You will return to the lodge for lunch and a short period of relaxation.

In the afternoon, you will transfer to the River Nile for a scenic boat cruise towards the base of Murchison Falls. As the boat travels upstream, you may encounter large groups of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and numerous bird species along the riverbanks. Possible bird sightings include African fish eagles, pied kingfishers, red-throated bee-eaters, herons, egrets, cormorants and African jacanas.

The cruise continues towards the point where the Nile is forced through a narrow rocky gorge before plunging into the river below. You will enjoy views of the powerful waterfall from the boat before returning downstream. After the cruise, you will transfer back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and begin the journey towards Fort Portal in western Uganda.

This is a long but scenic transfer through rural landscapes, agricultural areas, roadside communities and several western Ugandan towns. You will stop for lunch and comfort breaks along the route. As you approach Fort Portal, the landscape becomes greener and more mountainous, with tea plantations, rolling hills and views of the surrounding crater lake region. Fort Portal is one of Uganda’s most attractive tourism towns and provides a convenient base for exploring Kibale and Semuliki national parks.

Upon arrival, you will check in at your selected lodge and spend the remainder of the day relaxing. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short walk around the lodge or views of the surrounding countryside. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.

After breakfast, you will leave Fort Portal and travel to Semuliki National Park. The drive takes you through the spectacular landscapes of the Albertine Rift Valley, with beautiful views of forested hills, traditional farmland and distant mountain ranges.

Upon arrival at Semuliki National Park, you will meet an experienced park guide and begin a guided nature walk to the famous Sempaya Hot Springs. The trail passes through lush tropical vegetation where you may encounter monkeys, colourful birds, butterflies and unique forest plants. At Sempaya, you will visit the impressive hot springs, where boiling water, rising steam and mineral-rich pools emerge from beneath the earth. Your guide will explain their geological formation, cultural significance and the local stories associated with the springs. You will have time to explore the designated viewing areas and take photographs while following your guide’s safety instructions.

After your Semuliki experience, you will begin the return journey towards Fort Portal. Along the way, you will stop at Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru, one of the region’s most fascinating cultural and natural attractions. Accompanied by a local guide, you will explore the site and learn about the traditional legends connected to Amabere Ga Nyina Mwiru. You will also discover its remarkable caves, rock formations, waterfalls and surrounding vegetation.

After the guided visit, you will have lunch before continuing towards Kibale National Park. The journey takes you through the scenic countryside surrounding Fort Portal and onwards to the lush Kibale forest region, renowned as Uganda’s primate capital. You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon or early evening, where you can check in, relax and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings.

Your driver-guide will brief you about the following morning’s chimpanzee trekking experience, including the expected schedule and essential trekking guidelines. Dinner and overnight will be at your selected lodge near Kibale National Park.

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the chimpanzee trekking briefing point at Kibale National Park. At the briefing point, you will meet Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and receive instructions about forest safety, chimpanzee behaviour and trekking procedures.

You will then enter the tropical rainforest accompanied by experienced trackers. As you move through the forest, listen for the calls of chimpanzees and watch for movement in the trees. Your ranger may point out animal tracks, medicinal plants, forest birds and other primates encountered along the trail. Possible primate sightings include black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, olive baboons and grey-cheeked mangabeys. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will spend one memorable hour observing them as they feed, rest, groom, communicate and move between the forest floor and tree canopy. After the chimpanzee encounter, you will return to the lodge or a nearby restaurant for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will enjoy a guided Bigodi Wetland and community walk. The experience combines nature, culture and community-based tourism. During the walk, you may encounter monkeys, birds, butterflies and wetland vegetation. The community section may introduce you to traditional farming, coffee growing, banana cultivation, food preparation, medicinal plants, craft-making and village life. Revenue from the experience supports local conservation, education and community development initiatives. You will later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight

After breakfast, you will leave Kibale National Park and begin the scenic journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive passes through the Fort Portal and Kasese region, offering views of tea plantations, crater lakes, rural communities and the distant Rwenzori Mountains. You may stop at the Kikorongo Equator landmark for photographs before continuing to the park. Upon arrival, you will proceed to your lodge for check-in and lunch.

In the afternoon, you will transfer to the Kazinga Channel for a scenic boat cruise. The Kazinga Channel connects Lake George and Lake Edward and supports a remarkable concentration of wildlife. During the cruise, you may see large groups of hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, monitor lizards and numerous waterbirds along the shoreline. Possible bird sightings include African fish eagles, pelicans, African jacanas, cormorants, kingfishers, herons and egrets. The slow-moving boat provides excellent opportunities for photography and allows you to observe wildlife from a different perspective. After the cruise, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will begin a morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Wildlife is generally most active during the cooler morning hours, making this an excellent time to search for predators and grazing animals. Your driver-guide will explore the Kasenyi Plains or another productive wildlife area according to current animal movements. Possible sightings include lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, bushbucks, spotted hyenas and leopards.

After the game drive, you will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park and begin the journey towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will stop for lunch along the way. As you approach Bwindi, the landscape changes from open savannah to rolling hills, terraced farmland, winding mountain roads and dense rainforest. You will arrive at your lodge in the late afternoon or early evening.

Your driver-guide will brief you about the following day’s gorilla trekking experience, including what to wear, what to carry and what to expect during the trek. Dinner and overnight will be at your selected lodge.

Today marks one of the most anticipated moments of your Uganda safari. After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters with your original passport, packed lunch, drinking water and trekking equipment.

At the park headquarters, you will meet Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and receive a detailed briefing about gorilla trekking procedures, forest safety and conservation guidelines. You will then be assigned a habituated gorilla family and placed in a small trekking group.

Accompanied by experienced rangers and trackers, you will enter the ancient rainforest and begin searching for the mountain gorillas. The trek can last between two and several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location, movements and the condition of the forest trails. The experience may involve steep slopes, thick vegetation, mud and uneven terrain. Hiring a local porter is strongly recommended, as porters provide valuable assistance while directly benefiting from the income earned. Once the gorilla family is located, you will spend one extraordinary hour observing the gorillas as they feed, rest, groom, play and interact. You will have opportunities to take photographs while following the instructions provided by your ranger. After the encounter, you will trek back to the park headquarters and receive a gorilla trekking certificate. You will then return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Later in the afternoon, you will participate in a respectful, community-led Batwa cultural experience. During the visit, members of the Batwa community may share stories about their forest heritage, traditional survival methods, medicinal plants, songs, dances and cultural practices. The experience provides an opportunity to learn about Batwa history while supporting community livelihoods and cultural preservation. You will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, you will leave your Bwindi lodge and transfer towards Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The journey takes you through the spectacular highlands of southwestern Uganda, with views of terraced farmland, valleys, mountain communities and the Virunga volcanoes.

Upon arrival at Mgahinga, you will meet Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers and receive a briefing about golden monkey behaviour, forest safety and tracking procedures. You will then enter the park’s bamboo forest and begin searching for a habituated golden monkey group. Golden monkeys are active and colourful primates known for their golden-orange fur and energetic movements through the bamboo. Once the monkeys are located, you will observe them as they feed, play, interact and leap between branches. The experience provides excellent photography opportunities, although their speed and constant movement can make capturing the perfect photograph an exciting challenge. Your ranger may also point out birds, plants and other wildlife encountered during the trek.

After the golden monkey tracking experience, you will return to the park headquarters and proceed to your selected lodge in the Kisoro or Mgahinga region. The remainder of the day will be available for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your lodge

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and begin the journey towards Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes you through the scenic highlands and countryside of southwestern Uganda. You will travel past rural communities, farmland, rolling hills and several roadside towns. Lunch will be enjoyed along the route. As you approach Lake Mburo National Park, the landscape changes to open grassland, rocky hills, acacia woodland and seasonal wetlands.

Upon arrival, you will complete the park entrance formalities and proceed towards your lodge. Depending on your arrival time, you may see zebras, impalas, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs and other wildlife while transferring through the park. You will check in at your lodge and spend the remainder of the evening relaxing. Dinner and overnight will be at your selected lodge.

After an early breakfast, you will meet an experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger for a guided walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo is one of Uganda’s best destinations for exploring wildlife on foot because it does not contain elephants or lions as permanent resident populations.

During the walk, you may encounter zebras, impalas, giraffes, elands, topis, waterbucks, warthogs and buffaloes while maintaining a safe distance under the guidance of the ranger. The walking safari allows you to experience the park at a slower pace and notice details that are often missed from a vehicle. Your ranger may identify animal tracks, dung, plants, birds and other signs of wildlife while explaining the park’s ecology. The exact walking route will depend on wildlife movements, weather, vegetation and instructions from the park authorities. After the walking safari, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

The remainder of the afternoon and evening will be at leisure. You may relax beside the lodge, enjoy the views, read, swim where facilities are available or watch wildlife visiting the surrounding area. This relaxed afternoon provides an opportunity to rest after the previous days of trekking and long-distance travel. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your lodge.

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and begin the return journey to Kampala or Entebbe. You will travel through the countryside of central Uganda before stopping at the Uganda Equator in Kayabwe.

At the Equator, you can stand between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, take photographs, browse locally made souvenirs and enjoy refreshments. You will then continue towards Kampala or Entebbe.

The final drop-off location and departure time will be arranged according to your international flight schedule or post-safari accommodation plans. Travellers with an evening or late-night flight may be transferred directly to Entebbe International Airport. Guests staying an additional night may be dropped at a selected hotel in Entebbe or Kampala.
