About This Destination

Semuliki National Park is one of Uganda’s most distinctive safari destinations, located in the Albertine Rift Valley along the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Unlike Uganda’s typical savannah parks, Semuliki features lowland tropical rainforest that forms part of the vast Congo Basin ecosystem. The park is especially known for its exceptional birdlife, with over 440 recorded species, many of which are found only in Central Africa. It is also home to a variety of primates and forest mammals, though wildlife sightings are more subtle compared to open savannah parks. One of the park’s main attractions is the Sempaya Hot Springs, where boiling geysers emerge from the forest floor offering both a natural spectacle and cultural significance to local communities. Semuliki is ideal for travelers looking for a quiet, off-the-grid experience focused on nature walks, birdwatching, and cultural encounters rather than traditional game drives.
