This compact safari packs wildlife viewing, lake exploration, and cultural encounters into two unforgettable days.
Experience Uganda's compact wilderness gem on this action-packed 2-day safari. Lake Mburo National Park offers exceptional wildlife viewing with zebras, giraffes, and hippos, plus unique activities like boat cruises and optional walking safaris. Perfect for those short on time but eager for an authentic African safari experience.
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala, heading southwest toward Lake Mburo National Park, approximately a 3.5 to 4-hour drive. Along the way, you'll stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for photos and a brief demonstration of the Coriolis effect. Continuing your journey, you may also visit the Mpambire Drum Makers village to see local craftsmen shaping traditional drums. Upon arriving at the park around midday, you'll check into your lodge and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a scenic boat cruise on Lake Mburo where you can spot hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of waterbirds like African fish eagles and kingfishers. Later in the evening, head out for a game drive through the park's savannah and acacia woodlands—perfect for seeing zebras, impalas, buffalo, and possibly elusive leopards or hyenas as night falls. Return to your lodge for dinner and a relaxed overnight stay.

Wake up early for a sunrise game drive, when wildlife is most active and the park is bathed in golden light. This drive offers prime opportunities to spot Lake Mburo's signature wildlife, including eland (Africa's largest antelope), topi, giraffes, and playful warthogs. If staying at a lodge like Mihingo, you can opt for a unique walking safari or horseback ride through the bush, accompanied by an armed ranger. After a late breakfast and checkout, begin your journey back to Kampala. En route, you can stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre near Mbarara to explore the heritage of the Ankole people, with optional lunch at their restaurant. You'll pass the Equator once more before arriving in Kampala in the late afternoon, bringing your short but memorable Lake Mburo safari to a close.
