A compact savanna park with scenic lakes, zebras, and unique boat safaris
Lake Mburo National Park, located in western Uganda, is one of the smallest savanna national parks in the country, covering 260 square kilometers. Named after its central feature, Lake Mburo, it is part of a system of five lakes that enhance its scenic beauty.
The park’s rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and wetlands support a diverse range of wildlife, including zebras, impalas, and over 350 bird species. It is the only park in Uganda with impalas and one of the few with Burchell’s zebras.
Its proximity to Kampala makes it a popular destination for short safaris, offering a mix of game drives, boat trips, and walking safaris in a compact, accessible setting.
Lake Mburo National Park offers a unique safari experience with its blend of savanna, wetlands, and lakes. The park is renowned for its large populations of zebras, impalas, and elands, as well as its scenic boat trips on Lake Mburo, where visitors can spot hippos and crocodiles.
Unlike larger parks, Lake Mburo allows walking safaris, providing an intimate way to explore the savanna and observe wildlife up close. The park’s 350+ bird species, including the rare African finfoot, make it a paradise for birdwatchers.
Game drives in Lake Mburo offer sightings of zebras, impalas, and buffaloes, often conducted in the early morning or evening for optimal wildlife viewing. Drives last 2-3 hours, guided by experienced rangers.
Boat safaris on Lake Mburo are a highlight, offering a chance to see hippos, crocodiles, and waterbirds like the African fish eagle. These trips last about 1-2 hours and provide a serene perspective of the park.
